Meet Dr. Loughridge

Dr. B.P. Loughridge has served a distinguished career in cardiovascular surgery, and is widely recognized for his accomplishments in Oklahoma and the region.

Through the years, Dr. Loughridge has helped to develop new treatment techniques, including a technique to deliver chemotherapeutic agents to patients with metastatic cancer to the liver without making them toxic, for which he received a Fullbright Scholarship. He has also worked at the forefront of technology, being the first surgeon in Oklahoma to do cardiac remodeling and he was an early user of the laser utilized to smooth the lining of arteries and remove arteriosclerotic plaque.

Dr. Loughridge also helped in determining the indications and use of the pig heart valve in heart valve surgery procedures and was involved in the research that showed non-viable tissue has a limited term when used in areas of motion in the bodies of animals.

Dr. Loughridge is currently a clinical associate professor of surgery at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine.
